I need to know something for future reference. I had the remastered 3.4 cebit installed and when it froze on mounting the cd drive i restarted and it gave me some stuff that i forgot. IIRC, it said it had deleted some stuff (i guess it was stuff that wasnt written properly to the drive) and then something about me having to fix it or check it myself. Im sorry i dont remember what it said, but if anyone knows what im talking about, could you tell me what i need to do incase this happens again? Cause i just reinstalled it because i didnt have anything valueable, but if it happens like a few weeks i dont wanna do it again.

ZeroKun,

Sounds like two things, to me. FIRST, I am guessing you were using ext3 file system, or possibly reiser, and the checks you speak of happen in two situations, improper shutdown, and the other, when the device has been mounted more than a setting that was placed when the device was formatted.

The "deleting" part, or first thing, was probably due to a improper shutdown, I've had this happen, and the fsck (File System ChecK program) went through the device to find any problems. What probably happened is that fsck used the "journaled" files to rebuild the problems it found, thus your message about deteling files, it probably said something like "recovered XX, and deleted XX, etc..." - that is good.

The "fix" it part may be what I had a problem with, see my post, in this forum, titled: "HDD boot - fsck repair and reboot" - I posted a "sample" output of my error, and some of what it reported. This happened during a "normal" boot, and was the "mounting count" firing off of fsck, my settings were set to 40 mountings of my device, so I was booting on my 41th mount of my hard drive. If this error is what you think you had before, you can follow the same steps I did to recover.

If these don't help, maybe a little more information on the error message, or output, would allow better isolation of the issue.

Hope this helps,
Cuddles
