need help setting up MythTV

ive been using knoppix for over 2 months now decided to kick M$ media center to the curb & try out Linux PVR. So heres my problem i installed MythTV & followed the instructions
$ /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start

Starting MythTV server: mythbackendstart-stop-daemon: Unable to set gid to 114 :?: :?:

i have no idea what this means do i need to set permission for my default user.. when i tried to run it as root i get this message ...

root@speakerbox:~# /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start
Starting MythTV server: mythbackendSession management error: Could not open network socket

please can anyone help me thanks in advance

You may want to try KnoppMyth, a distro based on Knoppix designed specifically for using MythTV.

Even if you stick with you Knoppix install, you can probably get a lot of answers on their forums.
