View Full Version : booting from a laptop with NO cd but it does have a floppy

ok what i have is a toshiba Portege pent 300...128 meg of ram 4 gig hard drive...with dual boot 98/win2k on it........what i want to be able to do is put Knoppix in a directory (i can transfer it to the hard drive via my network)...and boot from a floppy to get to knoppix...is this possible? i would rather not do a full install because this computer is a bear to get an os back on it without a cd.(seroget laptop is needed)...so my only option is easy boot

you mean 4 gig with dual boot - not 4 gig free space?

Do you have onother PC? Than you can use Knoppix for back up your
Laptop.
When your Laptops has a build in Networkcard, and your Bios support PXE, and you have a second PC, you can use the second PC as Terminal-Server and boot Knoppix via Network:

Hello, my PC havenīt got CDROM and floppy disk, I need a image for install by net with PXE. Can you help me?

--BTW, you can get laptop 2.5" HD adapters that will allow you to connect the drive to a standard IDE cable.
