HD install very slow to boot up?

Hi everyone, i just did a HD install of knoppix 3.4 and it takes several minutes to boot up. Is it normal to take around 3-4 minutes to boot up? It is not the computer as XP would boot up in under a minute easily. Thanks in advance!

It's not normal.

Possibilities are:

it's desperately trying to configure something (an ethernet card, perhaps) and failing

your bios is reporting the amount of memory available incorrectly

no swap

Any interesting error messages? (Output of dmesg )

Thanks for the reply fingers, no there arent any error messages, it just says Loading Linux and goes ............. after that for a screen and a half. Then it goes to the loading screen showing all of the hardware, then it loads kde. It just takes a long time to go through the entire process. Also the machine does have a 1gb swap partition and 768mb of ram.
