I'm no expert in ppp/ dsl/ pon, but I show you my settings:
#---ppp/peers/dsl-provider, end -----------------------
# Asynchronous-Control-Character-Map (ACCM)
default-asyncmap

user "ar0123456789"
usepeerdns

#---ppp/pap-secrets, end -------------
# If you have different providers with different passwords then you better
# remove the following line.

alpha * password
"ar0123456789" * "45645645"
Of course this is my real username and password...

what kind of modem is it ?
does your connection pass through eth0 ?
i am not sure your log and pass are right ==> i had already the prob ==> for each time it was a login/pass prob
you can clean resolv.conf
then after attempting to connect, you check if your provider has sent the dns to you
