Internet connection but not loading any page

hi I just installed knoppix 3.4 and seems to work allright

the problem i have, i can connect with the modem to the outside world and in a therm i can ping (0 pakage lost), but when starting mozilla it does not load any page :x
Its an old isamodem 33.6 (Davicom v34+)

can any boddy give me a hint what I'm doing wrong or have forgotten

Perhaps a proxy is defined in the mozilla-preferences (advanced/proxies).
Try with konqueror/ lynx/ links/ opera.
Try a ftp-client.

Or a firewall running?

issue an 'ifconfig'.
