hello everyone,

I have just finished a Debian type install of knoppix 3.4 with the 2.6.6 kernel and here is my problem I am unable to hear the KDE startup sound when logging into my user account although it works fine when booting into my root account :? I made sure the sound system was enabled in KDE in both accounts, but in my user account when I try to use alsa as my sound system I get this error in the sound system module of the control center.

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

here is the output of lsmod

Try append ALSA on your lilo.conf.
It might work: or you can try reinstall using ALSA cheatcode.

Try append ALSA on your lilo.conf.

How would I go about reinstalling with the cheatcoade?

Thanks for your help
