Can't access hard drives when running knoppix

I'm running knoppix off the cd. When I try to open one of my hard drives, it doesn't allow me the permission. What is going on? Do I need to log in as an admin or something?

Try using a root shell and mounting the hard drive ie
mount /dev/hda1
Then you should either get an error that could explain what is going on or you will have acceess to the drive in /mnt/hda1 and should be on the desktop too.
To mount it read/write right click the hard drive icon on the desktop.
