I have spent all day trying to figure out why my adsl wont work, i get this

When I click on DSL/PPPoe configurator it opens a window and the popup says:
"I found 1 ethernet device: eth0 Are all your interfaces listed above?"
I clicked on yes and it then opened another popup that said:
"Looking for PPPoe access contrentrator on eth0"
After it performed some stuff on the main window the popup said:
"Sorry I scanned 1 interface, but the Access contrentator of your provider did not respond. Please check your network and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running PPPoe process which controls the modem"
I was never given any options to setup my username and password or any such thing.

my ethernet card is a broadcom 440x 10/100 and is connected to an external adsl modem

thnx :(

First you should check your cable from modem to eth card and from your telephone line to your modem. Make sure they're okay.

Then run adsl/ppoe configuration. If the problem still persist try run command " ifconfig -a " to check wether your eth0 is there. If you see
ppp0, that means you are connected somehow.

Try set your networkcard by running network card configuration. Create a permanent i.p. and enter your isp nameserver. Then run pppoeconf again.

There is an alternative for adsl/ppoe called kdsl. Get it from :

http://kdslbroadband.sourceforge.net/
