I have a dual boot setup with a knoppix hd install...

when i first installed knoppix it worked fine, then i did a bunch of updates with apt-get and now it wont automount and it wont even let me manually mount the cd-rom !!

i know my hardware is not bad because if i reboot into windows it reads fine ..

what can i do ? :(

We will need more info.
In knoppix, at the command line:
# dmesg | grep ide
# cat /etc/fstab

This will display how the system is detecting the hardware on the IDE chain and will also let us know how the system mounts the various filesystems.

Also look here http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12244 for a similar situation.
Thanks,
James

thanks for the link, i read it thoroughly and tried this first... replaced old cd-rom line in /etc/fstab with this:

/dev/sr0 /cdrom iso9660 defaults,ro,user,noexec,noauto 0 0

it worked like a charm !

Of course i had to delete the cd-rom icon on the desktop and create a new one.. that was easy.. :)

now it works perfectly again... I WONDER WHY AND HOW IT GOT MESSED UP ! ????

Someone should look into this....

THANKS :)
