You cannot write to an ntfs filesystem.

Check this out www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=53045 and do a write to ntfs search in the abouve search box to find out how.

Is your cd burner set up right through your /etc/fstab? This is still a problem I'm trying to resolve.

Here's is what I would do to recover the data.

Boot Knoppix to Ram. ('knoppix toram' at boot prompt).
Remove CD once the kernel starts and insert blank CD
Burn files to CD(s) using K3b
Verify files can be read on another system.

This alleviates any need to write to an NTFS file system and you will have an archive of the data should anything untoward happen again.

If you don't have a CD burner or enough memory to do this, then format a spare HD with a FAT partition. Knoppix can do this for you with QTParted if you don't have access to another system (I'd prefer to partition and format on a Windoze box to prevent any accidents or compatibility issues later). You should then be able to write all files to save to the spare HD after removing the read-only attribute for the HD.

Just my 2 penneth.
