PC hangup after using KNOPPIX CD

I have used M. GAGNE;S cd from his book and it seems to work fine,
except when i logout.the logout procedure goes very well and the system says to remove the CD and hit return;this will reboot into windows.I do exactly that and my machine locks up.i can NOT even turn the machine off with the on/off button!!!! i have to turn the electricity off and then all is well?????any help? thank you

Well I have no idea who or what M. GAGNE;S is but it sounds like perhaps an apm or acpi problem. Try booting w/ acpi=off or noapm

What kind of box is this? Dell? Give hardware details please.
