Dear all,

I have the same problem that Ariszló had:
http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1168

My graphic card is also Intel(R) 82845G, 128M,
monitor is Sony Multiscan E230.

Following is the output from 'lspci -v' :
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2562 (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Asustek Computer, Inc.: Unknown device 2562
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Memory at e7800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1

Please could anyone give some advice how this can be fixed?

Thanks,
viêt.

I asume you mean that your system hangs when you select logout. Try this- open a term and type:

reboot

Or if you've done that before just let us know if it reboots ok or not. What have you tried to fix it thus far?
Post the output of:

dmesg

Dear rickenbacherus,

When I log out, the screen goes blank.
I can't kill the X-server by Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace but I can open text terminals (Ctrl-Alt-F1). From there I can reboot or halt as normal.

I look forward to your reply.
Thanks
viet.

rickenbacherus,

I forgot to tell you that after I get to a term and run reboot command, the machine reboots to X with no problem.

This is the output of dmesg:

quite interesting. I'm still looking into it.

Have you checked out /var/log/syslog?

There's the problem- IRQ conflict. It's trying to use the IRQ router to share IRQ's BUT the very IRQ sharing device can't get an IRQ itself!! What a dillemma! Sorry I didn't spot it earlier- was getting the short people off to school! :D See if you can hard assign IRQ's to the offending devices in your BIOS. I have never seen a cheat code like this (at least not for Knoppix) but perhaps it is somehow possible to tell the kernal to use the BIOS irq's on boot.

On a integrated SiS motherboard of mine I have to put the following in my lilo append line:

pci=biosirq

If you are running from CD use it as a boot parameter (cheat code) and see if that helps ie:

knoppix pci=biosirq *plus any other necessary codes
