1.Since alsa has replaced OSS as the sound module in the 2.6 kernel, is it necessary to use the alsa cheatcode with the 2.6 kernel?
2.Is there any reason to keep the 2.4 kernel if you can get everything working with the 2.6?

Probably since you can still build OSS as some cards simply do not work w/ ALSA.


2.Is there any reason to keep the 2.4 kernel if you can get everything working with the 2.6?

It's always a good idea to have at least 2 bootable kernels, but if you're really strapped for hdd real-estate then you can certainly remove the 2.4.*
