Cannot write to HDs

When using knoppix, i cannot write to my hard drives, or my thumb drive. Although I am able to read from my hard drives just fine. I can only boot knoppix with the "nodma" command, how does this command effect my computer?

I get the following hard drives when trying to create a new folder on a hard drive or thumb drive.

Error - Konqueror
Could not make folder /mnt/hdd1/New Folder

I get this error when trying to copy a file to my hard drive or thumb drive.

Information- Konqueror
Could not write to file /mnt/hdd1/test.txt

You have to make them writable. Find the desktop icons, right-click -> properties -> third tab -> uncheck read only -> OK -> right-click -> unmount -> left click icon again to remount.

Do that for each.
