Strange Error

Hi

When I boot from cd lately, I get a message "error: only one processor found". I am on a new gigabyte mboard as of last week. But tech told me h replaced board with replica of last board. On previous twin I was able to boot knoppix fine. Not now. Anyone know hat this is? I have searched forum and google to no avail.
I am on 1ghz 256ram celeron

I get the same error on a Celeron but not on an AMD K6.
I have a lot of problems with the Celeron, it does'nt seem to like Linux in general.

--First impression: Take board back to tech, ask him if he overclocked the machine. Backlevelling/more cooling may be needed for stability.

When I boot from CD lately, I get a message "error: only one processor found". I am on a new Gigabyte MB as of last week. But tech told me he replaced board with replica of last board. On previous twin I was able to boot knoppix fine. Not now.
Check the BIOS version. The replacement board may have an earlier (or simply different) version of the BIOS. Check the reported BIOS version against the latest version from the Gigabyte site.

As far as the overclocking, that should not be a problem. You should also try the AIDA32 system checker, both as a cross-check against Sandra and because it's better (and free -- the free version of Sandra is crippleware).

Have you tried "knoppix nosmp"

I saw Klaus refer to this option once in an e-mail, but I have not seen it on any of the cheat code lists. Let us know what happens.

It says "error only one processor found" when i boot up too, but I still boot up fine. I'm using a P4.

I get this all the time on my 2.6ghz celery machines. the "Error, only one processor found"

I just ingore it, the machine boots up and works fine.
