Hi,
i'm new to Knoppix, and yet i just fell in love with it the moment i tried it !!
It recognized all hardware parts in my PC perfectly and i was surfing the web in minutes.
My only complaint is; Knoppix can't play Realplayer(ra) audio/video files.
I've tried to listen some streaming music but Knoppix failed to play because the streaming audio was in ReaulAudio format.
I was wondering if this problem is rather due to licensing issues rather than than technical issues?
If the problem is due to licencing issues with Realplayer/Realone corporation; then i wonder why Knoppix developers don't try alternative ways in order to make Knoppix play or handle Real audio/video files/formats?
I'm aware of at least one alternative source which can handle or play real audio files/formats.
It's called "Real Alternative" ( http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm ).
I'm quite sure you Knoppix developers are already aware of this aletranative program. Yet i'm surprized as to why you haven't integrated into Knoppix in order to make it even more attractive.
Similarly this site ( http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm ) also has codecs which can play Windows Media Player files. And i hope Knoppix can integrate all these features into its next release.
All the best.javascript:emoticon(':)')

Linux can play realplayer. You can install realplayer using: klik.berlios.de

I use kaffeine and mplayer. Add this to you apt sources.lst:
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main

Then in root konsole:
apt-get update
apt-get mplayer-686(**depends on your system) mplayer-fonts w32codecs kaffeine

:D :D :D

Thank you for the reply Shah, i will try your suggestion : :D :D :D
But i just hope that Knoppix developers will integrate this feature into its next version.
That way all we have to do is just click and play the RealAudio files.

For streaming music try 'streamtuner'. Read next post: http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12447

This won't happen, realplayer is closed source & will not allow redistribution of it's software.

Use her name.

If anyone cares, then I recommend RealAlternative and Classic Media Player: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

Hi,

No problem at all
I don't like the realmedia players and stuff... but knoppix gives a mucu better option, use the Xine viiewer and install realmedai codecs.

Yes i undersand that CrashedAgain, but Knoppix, i'm quite sure, can integrate the "Real Alternative" codecs instead, because Real Alternative is free in every way. Check for more details at: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

The Real Media browser plugin supports Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape and Opera.

This would seem to imply that these are Windows applications, not Linux. Is this so?
