Video on my laptop Toshiba Satellite 1710CDS 600 mhz with ati Mobility C card is REALLY slow. How can I get this to improve. Here is the glxinfo:

First thing I notice is:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No

So question #1: What is XFRee86-DRI and how do I get it to be not missing.
Next, direct rendering: No I think means I have no video acceleration active. How do I get it working?

Here is excerpt from XF86Config-4 config:

Section "Device"
### Available Driver options are:-
# sw_cursor is needed for some ati and radeon cards
Option "sw_cursor"
#Option "hw_cursor"
#Option "NoAccel"
#Option "ShowCache"
#Option "ShadowFB"
#Option "UseFBDev"
#Option "Rotate"
#Added by CrashedAgain:
Option "DPMS"
Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"

Identifier "Card0"
# The following line is auto-generated by KNOPPIX mkxf86config
Driver "ati"
VendorName "All"
BoardName "All"
# BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultColorDepth 16

The 'No off screen pixmaps' was added because without it I got squiggly lines all over the screen. Details of this fix here: http://linuxwiki.de/KDE/i810Bug
