cannot get sound to work

i have an aopen sound card that is not seemingly compatible with knoppix v 3.6, however, it IS compatible with knoppix-std. this is both interesting and frustrating, although because of their similarities i am sure it is solvable. please post if you know how this can be solved

I was just playing around with similar issues.

All my system notification sounds work great when logged on as root. However, when logged on as user, I can not get the sound notifications to work at all. ALL other sounds worke great, like real 10 player, Adacity etc....

I have compared ALL settings under root as my user account and insured they are exactly the same. No Joy there!

I do notice under root that the option for Sound Priority randomly is checked off and then isn't. When attempting to check it off under my user account I get a problem with ARTS wrapper not configed or missing!

Not sure where to go from here????

Anyone have any ideas????
