first hello to all.

i am a total newcomer to Knoppix and Linux, but im quite interested in this system.

after reviewing the docs, FAQs and the forums here i was already able to work myself a bit into Knoppix the last days.

Nevertheless there are some issues here and there, which are new to me and there i need some help i guess...

For now im at the point, where i tried to install my network and internet.

I am connected via the german Telekom and got a ADSL connection of 1 MBit.

But somehow my Onboard Network solution is not recognized by the system.

I got a ASUS P4P800 Mainboard and the Network solution is the
3Com Gigabit LAN 3c940 onboard.

lspci -v brought back this:

knoppix@ttyp0[knoppix]$ lspci -v

at least it brought something back, so its there.

then i tried to install drivers for the card and they were in the database. i know that it cant install it, cause there is no such device, but i just wanted to try it anyway.

Installing module 3c59x. If the device isn't there, or isn't configured correctly, this could cause your system to pause for up to a minute.

Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.27/modules.dep
/lib/modules/2.4.27/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.27/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.27/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.27/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: insmod 3c59x failed
