I am new to knoppix and this is my first post in the forum, I hate it to be a
question, especially if something is just setup wrong on my end.

I did a hard drive install off of the 3.6 knoppix cd, and everything works
great, but I want to use nvidia's driver, so I downloaded the .run file and
followed the instructions to install it. After setting gcc 2.95 as default, I
compiled it, and edited all of the config files. but there is something wrong,
whenever I try to startx, It looks like GLX errors out, signal 11..

I am running an nForce2 chipset for video.

Thanks for the Help
Paul

Here is the log file, the particularly large and annoying sections are clipped.

You compiled the .run file?

When I ran it, it didn't need to be compiled.

Yea, it said it didnt have a precompiled version.. I wonder what is diffrent between yours and mine...

hmm, try this.

Just skip down to the nvidia driver part.

I have the same problem.
Did you solve it

For kernel 2.4.27 you don't need to compile your kernel.
Just do this:
export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-2.95
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-"driver ver"-pkg1.run

You need to compile your kernel only when you want to install nvidia driver using kernel 2.6.x.
http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11619&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=10

**It's the kernel you compile, not the nvidia driver**

I solved it by going back a couple of versions of the drivers, it installed fine then.
