hi,

i'm a noob, just downloaded knoppix to learn linux.

discovered that knoppix didn't automatically install my wireless adapter, tried the forums...

(1) tried to use wlanctl-ng, but got these error messages

knoppix@ttyp0[knoppix]$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 1915:2233
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0458:0007 KYE Systems Corp. (Mouse Systems)
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04a9:1094 Canon, Inc.
knoppix@ttyp0[knoppix]$ su root
root@ttyp0[knoppix]# iface wlan0 inet dhcp
bash: iface: command not found
root@ttyp0[knoppix]# cd etc
bash: cd: etc: No such file or directory
root@ttyp0[knoppix]# cd /etc
root@ttyp0[etc]# cd /networking
bash: cd: /networking: No such file or directory
root@ttyp0[etc]# sudo su
root@ttyp0[etc]# wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng: No such device

note: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 1915:2233 is the one connected to my wireless adapter

(2) went to linksys website to get the driver
but couldn't install the driver as they said something about the kernel being incomplete

(3) tried to install amtel drivers but got error messages also

(4) tried the 'iface' command (i don't know what is it coz i'm a noob and follow the forums) but seems like it isn't found in knoppix

I need help! thanks

I tried Belkin PCMCIA and USB and Linksys PCMCIA on v3.3. In all cases the device is recognised during the boot sequence but when I try to configure it 2it is not there". I have the supposedly correct driver from Atmel [found it through numerous searches of newsgroups] but it doen't appear to work and ...I am going to commit suicide about it in 4 mins.
[4 mins later]
Sorry, my pistol misfired and I have survived. I'll try v3.4 instead.
I fear there may be something else wrong; all devices? Too much of a coincidence.

Check the following URL: http://www.linux-wlan.org/

It has plenty of info. Some "assembly" required. I haven't figured out all the details, but it seems to be the best shot.
