PLEASE HELP - NEW USER TO KNOPPIX!

Ok guys, heres the deal, I recently statted using Knoppix on my laptop (AMD 2600 processor, original OS is windows XP) and created a 'persistent home directory' to save my files too. It said that by doing this all previous data would be lost, i pressed ok, and i was able to save my files fine, no problem.
the problem comes when trying to access windows XP (home edition) again. With the knoppix cd not in the CD-rom drive, a message comes up saying 'missing operating system': thus windows xp does not boot.

I have tried the windows xp reload cd's, which have worked fine in the past but upon booting from the CD-rom, a screen comes up saying.....
"...entering system reload process
partition1
bootable FAT 32 EXTENDED
start LBA 3f
no of lbas 4a852c1
last lba 78140160

1 partitions defined...."

This screen just stays the way itis and nothing happens!!!!!

can someone please tell me how to get windows back! and if possible, my files!

Did you create a PH file or format the drive as ext2?
If ext2 then you need some undelete software to get your files back.
