I've noticed all the posts with the realtek 8139 M$ issues. I've found that PHLAK live cd distribution works fine with my 8139 but knoppix does not.

Is there a way I can pull the driver that the PHLAK cd is using and just bring it over to knoppix?

This would solve a lot of peoples issues with this card and bring a lot more users over to knoppix.

I've found that knoppix26 (the 2.6 kernel) works alot better with these types of cards.

What does lsmod and lspci say?
Try modprobe e100 or modprobe 8139too

I'm going to have time to play with this tomorrow after I get off of work. I'm pretty sure it works with PHLAK it may be one of the other distros that I have laying around. But i'll post the info back on the modprobe read outs on both knoppix and what ever distro it works in.

Okay my card is working in SUSE and the following is the output of lsmod and lspci. If you guys need anything else to help track this down let me know. And again my 8139 does not work in KNOPPIX or many other live distros so it must be driver related. Currently I'm running SUSE 9.2 off of a KDE live cd and the card works no problems no messing with drivers it just works off of boot.

And the modprobe commands don't do anything in SUSE 9.2 they just return back to a bash prompt line. Sorry for the long post I don't know how to make the cool little code boxes that you guys do I'm way to tired right now to look around anyways.

HARRY does this mean anything to ya?

From what I can see, SuSe uses mii and 8139too modules for the card. Try modprobing them in Knoppix.
Don't know if modinfo works in SuSe but you can use it in Knoppix to see info about a module:
modinfo mii
modinfo 8139too
