Hi,

Although i've spent many years in IT, i'm a complete noob to Linux.

I have a copy of Knoppix on a CD which will load on one of my desktops but when I try to load it on my laptop it hangs at the point where it is scanning for DCHP stuff.

Although i'm IT literate, it is not on the hardware side so could someone please explain to me in VERY simple terms what the problem is and whether there is anything to get round it ? (I dont even know what DCHP is :P)

Thanks in anticipation

DHCP = Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol which is basically an easy way to assign an i.p. address to a client. You can skip DHCP by using a cheatcode. At the boot prompt enter:

nodhcp
