View Full Version : Won't allow me to change permissions

sdat1333

when I try to save something to my recently partitioned hard drive( I have an 8 gig ext3 partition for linux) it says "don't have access"
When I go to change the permissions to fix this, it says "Changing the attributes of files is not supported with protocol devices. I really want to get this to work, but I am close to giving up. :(

seems that you have everything OK.
exactly what are you trying to save and where?
what is the exact erormessage?
i am slightly mystified, could be that deafult is set to read only in Knoppix (might be that).
"i" would set the line below in MY fstab and reboot. if i get erors i can still edit it by remounting rw from a cdboot.
i changed defaults to rw on the fourth line from top of your /etc/fstab. could be done by root in any texteditor
sudo kedit /etc/fstab should work i guess.

/dev/hda2 / ext3 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 1
but if you have a poor mans install, a knoppix type install it wil be reset each time, then a remount to reead/write must be done each time you boot.

The exact error message is: "Changing the attributes of files is not supported with protocol devices"
