changing MAC on knoppix 3.4 orinoco

my prism 2 based lancard is driven with ORINOCO driver by knoppix 3.4 which on windows use INTERSIL driver.

the prob is all the network thing goes just fine except when i try to change my MAC.

either with macchanger or ifconfig eth0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, in both case i get segmentation fault and network card stops working. even with another console su doesnt work and halts.

is there any solution for that ?? on knoppix ?? i'm afraid if i have to patch the kernel somehow with orinoco driver patch, how would i do that ??

Which kernel do you use? I had the same problem with another card, and switching from Kernel 2.4.x to 2.6.x solved it for me.

i tried to start with KNOPPIX26 / LINUX26 startup option with teh knoppix 3.4 i got

as u've told that 2.6 kernel might just help me get the MAC changing prob fixed, but i couldnt even start it up ... the kernel decompresses .. and everything just stalls to a blank screen.

i've got some drivers for PRISM2.5 chipset. how do i install them.

and kernel 2.6 isnt working here ... it halts right after decompressing.

could anyone pls get me a quick solution ?? :?:
