Another sound problem person

Its a weird one. I run knoppix as a HDD install (it was debian but knoppix is luser friendly and I'm most definetely a luser) and when running as a boot disc sound worked perfectly, now it's a full install theres no sound what so ever, a quick google didn't help in the slightest.

Another useful bit of information is that it's an *old* boot disc, about 3.1 IIRC, any help would be appreciated :)
