Can I get steps to configure Wine?

I've tried to get it to run but don't know what I'm doing wrong. How does it work and what does it do?

You generally use wine as an argument e.g. (at a terminal) wine 'mywinblows application' where the
stuff following wine is the name of the application you want wine to open and hopefully run.

What windows app do you want to run? If it's a game wine probably is not going to work.

Wine doesn't seem to work that well for many users. I have gotten it to work with some small programs
but I wouldn't personally say it is anything to write home about.
