Has anyone installed knoppix on a drive over 160gigs? Im assuming this should work without a problem. The reason why i ask is i used knoppix to do a large backup on my network roughly 30gigs nightly and want to have multiple days of backups accessable so im gonna need around a 200gig to run it woithout an issue.

indeed i have, i have installed linux on a 200G drive.
That particular install is on a pentium 1 at 133Mhz :-) with all of 128Mb ram .
and YES it has a controller card, ATA 133.
No 133 that i know of can work with disks like that without one.
Basically i am saying that as long as the hardware can work with the drive it should work.

I beleive several terabytes are nessisary before special kernel support is needed.
