ok ive seen several topics on this but none have helped

ive clean installed knoppix 3.6 , everything is ok but try to start samba by ANY method and it does not fire it up correctly ie i cant see the knoppix install from any other pc/laptop connected, but works ok on live cd.
in user mode it asks me for a password OK
but does not has if i want to mount the drives.

ive checked the samba.conf the only difference i can see from the live ver to hd version is:-
the live version automatically creates script at the bottom of the samba.conf mounting the cdrom and drives , while the HD version does not

can anyone help

On hdd installation, don't use "start samba server" from knoppix menu. Start it manually or auto on every boot.
Do this in root konsole:
To start manually : /etc/init.d/samba
To start automatically on every boot : rc.d-update samba defaults
Create samba user and their password.
Edit your /etc/samba.conf
