Networking 2 computers with crossover cable

I have two computers, with the computer which connects to the internet running windows XP and my own computer running both windows XP and Knoppix 3.7. I wish to connect to the network when running Knoppix although have not be sucessful. If i can do so then i am able to use the internet when running Knoppix. I am a beginner and any help would be excellent.

how is your XP configured whan you share the conection between the boxes in XP?
do you have a static IP or is it dynamic? if dunamic pump should be enough to get online.
if that doesn't work post the output from these comands, enter them in a console (kconsole is the icon with the shell on it.)


ifconfig

lsmod

dmesg|grep eth
