I have an old Gateway Solo 9100 laptop with a Yamaha something or other sound card in it .. Knoppix wont see it at all .. (the only thing it cant find.. not bad)
My question is... is it even possible for me to get the sound card working at all ??
Thanx

If you are using the cdrom then open a console window and type sudo sndconfig then enter to run the sound configuration utility to see if it will detect. If a HD install then open a root console and just type sndconfig then enter. Other than that google (http://www.google.com/linux) might be your best friend.

Im a total newbie tho .. lol .. no clue
thanx for the help
I can't be sure that this will get you going, but the next release (or soon after) will make ALSA available (thanks to Fabianx) and this will solve a LOT of sound problems. Look in the changelogs of the upcoming releases and if you see ALSA you should give it a try.
