View Full Version : knoppix 3.6 cdrom problems

i have done a HD install of Knoppix 3.6...everything installed ok but now i cant access my floppy or cdrom or my dvdrom. i tried logging in as root and creating a new dev but that didnt work either...can someone help me plz

At a terminal do "dmesg" and see what those drives are listed as.

I have found that sometimes the drive icons that knoppix sets up automatically
on the desktop don't work right.

You shouldn't need to be root if you just right click on your desktop and select
create new device then right click on the new device icon and select properties
( or you can simply select the device tab from the open window ) and scroll down to
the correct entry. All your fstab entries should show up for selection in the box labelled
device. Once you have selected the correct device click "ok" and you should-barring
any permissions issues-be able to access your optical and floppy drives.

The desktop icons can be edited directly. Right-click on one and go to the URL tab. If it says /mnt/cdrom but your /etc/fstab says /cdrom (which is the way Debian likes to do things), just delete the /mnt part from the URL.
