Hello,

I decided to start a new post on this problem.

Installed knoppix to HD on a Dell GX1 p3 600 256RAM Benq dvd/cd writer.

the question is simple... how do I play a DVD from my favourite video renter on this unit?

I try to open the DVD in XINE and I get this error box/message...

-xine engine error -

there is no input plugin available to hande 'dvd:/'
Maybe MRL systax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist

Thanks for your help...
NGS

BTW the drive in question does work and data cd can be read without problems. CD'd can also be written on this drive. Haven't tried to write a DVD yet.

This is the error xine gives when it can't find the dvd..ie, when there is no disc in the drive. Assuming you are using xine to open the dvd check your settings (mine is driver is set to 'auto'). Other possible problem is your system is not linking the mount point properly, the auto mounter should mount the dvd on /mnt/cdrom.
You should also set xine to use arts as an audio driver, otherwise arts (used by kde) may interfere with your sound from xine.[/list]
