View Full Version : "Can't find Knoppix filesystem." ... "limited

The Knoppix 3.7 CD works fine on 3 different Dell PCs.

So I created bootfloppies and put them in an old Compaq.
Now it says:
"Can't find Knoppix filesystem."
Then it drops me to a "limited shell"

I already tried "knoppix nodma" at the boot: prompt.
That did not work either.

The old Compaq has an external SCSI CDROM drive and it works.
I can boot this Compaq from the hard disk into Windows
and see the Knoppix directory structure on the CD.

But it just can't find the knoppix filesystem on this Compaq.

I took the CD back to the Dell PCs and it still works fine.
So the Compaq is the problem.

Please help.

That's not certain. We have seen many times here in these forums where someone who has burnt a CD at high speed will have it work on some systems but not others. When they go back and burn the same ISO file slowly (like 4x) it will then boot on other systems that the high speed burn would not. And I think the errors they got were similar to yours. This is not a promise that burning at a slow speed will fix things for you, but it might.
