hello all

I've installed the new knoppix 3.8 on my hd and everything works fine. I'm wondering my, why it isn't possible to login as root in the kde. is it any way to change the settings, that it is possible to login as root?
thanks a lot for your help.

greetings mario

there are many tools built into kde and linux in general for that matter so you dont need to be logged in as root.

if you need to do things as root like editing config files. either 1 open up konsole and type sux or su and then type your password then cd to what ever dir you want to go to and use vim to edit files.

or 2 open up the file manager in superuser mode and do stuff like that.

logging in to kde as root is a major security risk. every application you use will have the id of root meaning that if someone exploited one of your applications while you was logged in as root they would have complete control of your machine. your passwords in /etc/shadow are at risk of being cracked packet sniffers can be executed.
