It's easy enough:
Disable the primary drive in the BIOS
Install away!
Get a boot manager, preferably GAG, that can 'swap drives', making the secondary drive appear as the primary drive so that XP will boot

Basically you need to get use a partition manager to free up some space on your hard drive to create a Linux partition.

After you do that, you can install Knoppix to it.
