trying to convert up one of my Win2k systems, to see how it turns out.

(looked for lan install, didn't find anything helpful or in the end workable) (didn't look too hard ?? )

attached cd-rom to headless win2k (auto-boot) seti cruncher.
reboot

knoppix screen

using a knoppix text mode screen (?) typed
sudo knoppix-installer and got into the
qtparted screen

having set my usual (?) config, and selecting commit, it started, completed 1 of 5 thingys, and froze [[ fark, 3 times now] (damn, again!!?!? )

anyhoo ....

started, knoppix (something tty only mode, mode 2 uhm...)
ran it in hard mode, cfdisk

made an
ext3 128mb
linux-swap 640mb
ext2 [rest]

and committed (or wrote) and actually not froze, so rebooted, to desktop, and tried sudo knoppix-installer again....

and it didn't freeze, so success (?)
anyhoo..... rebooted , again, (yawn)

back to the desktop, and tried (again) for knoppix-installer

and qtparted still shows errors
BUT .. the partitions actually show this time
but blank (not formatted) so right-click each partition and format as
so I right-click each partitions and select
128mb ext3-bootable
640mb swap
rest ext2

and after reboot () the tty-screen knoppix-installer didn't complain but actually asked to install....

so, much (almost) stress later, I am actually converting a win2k system over to knoppix
fingers crossed
==
and they work that way.
this needs tidying....
but the number, type, format of needed partitions isn't clear from knoppix-installer
and if you're in the cfdisk screen, there is no EXT2/EXT3 option, nor option to format
