View Full Version : Knoppix 3.8 umount problem

Just got Knoppix 3.8 yesterday after having been using 3.7 without any problems and am
having a major problem with it.

The following is edited from a user on another forum who has exactly the same problem.
(The PID and maybe the line number presumably not the same in my case):

I create a persistent home on /mnt/hdb1, with default size and reboot.
Home is detected and mounted OK and the system works OK.

But, on shutdown, the following occurs:

Unmounting file systems.
/dev/pts unmounted
automount(pid2626) unmounted
umount2: Device or resource busy
could not unmount /KNOPPIX.IMG - trying /dev/loop0 instead
umount /dev/loop0: not mounted
umount2: Device or resource busy

It then hangs indefinitely.

A further Ctll/Alt/Del does another sigerm, sigkill routine then produces something
like the following:

/usr/sbin/knoppix-image: line 193: 2511 Segmentation fault cp -a /etc/mtab
/UNIONFS/etc/mtab 2>/dev/null

The ext2 persistant home is in an ext3 partition created by Fedora, also
running on my system. It all worked fine with 3.7. I've also tried setting up the home on a vfat
partition instead, but with the same results. Whether or not config is saved seems to make no difference.

Any help with this would be appreciated since at present it makes it impossible to use the
nice new 3.8 version

I'm having the exact same problem with knoppix 3.8, same message and all.

Doesn't matter where I create the persistent home, the same thing happens. Have to power off
with the power button. After starting Knoppix 3.8 again I either have really large icons on the
desktop, or it looks like I got someone elses desktop altogether (wallpaper, icons, programs, everything).
Then when restarting, the same thing happens again.

Maybe we'll have better luck with 3.8.1, which is supposed to be released any day now.

Klaus Knopper & Co. fixed the problem in v3.8.1.
