what i would like to do is clean the root directory of my thumbdrive. i have used the dsl-usb floppy and copy the boot sector into the thumbdrive, and it boots nicely. (i used winimage) the problem is that all of the boot files are in the root directory how can i clean this up, i would like to put all these files in a directory. the partition is fat. any ideas on how to do this in windows or linux?????
thanks

What are you talking about? The boot files *have* to be in the root directory, or the bootloader can't find them.

Post a cut-n-paste of the files you'd like to move as an example, please.

i know i can set the syslinux to boot the kernal from a different directory but i want all the files to boot from the same directory. but U said they *have* to. is it different for CDs b/c all the boot files are in a boot directory on the knoppix CD. i know if different formats and stuff.

--Indeed. What you are proposing cannot be accomplished, at least within the limits of my knowledge. ;-)

--You might try sending an email to the syslinux maintainer, but my guess is that "the question is moot" at this point.
