knoppix 3.7 sound card problem

very familiar with 3.7 but upgraded ( very very sorry) to 3.8--could nto config sound card so i reinstalled 3.7
and went to audacity--worked great before--now i cannot select line in, mic etc
dmesg finds siundblaster live card
emu10k1 is found in lib/codules ( hop-e this is right --i find emu10k1

when i run sndcongig as root

it finds the card

but then give serror
.............. not currently in your module search path

if i have posted this before please ignore previous--it's getting veally aggrivated as i have work to do with audacity

any help reallyis appreciate--go0ogling not helpful but others have had this problem posted replies not helpful to me

fix it--audacity 1.2.3 knoppix 3.7 hd install

went to audacity preferences and seleted playback and recording devices--played with them and got system now running
