Thanks for a great product!

It would help a whole lot if you provided downloads via bittorrent, a peer-to-peer technology that scales MUCH better than mirrors and is much faster per download.

E.g. KNOPPIX_V3.2-2003-03-28-EN is available at
http://207.44.142.96/

Check out the graphs and other isos there.

Cheers,

Did you try the now working alsa-autodetection ?

"knoppix alsa" at start.

and try knoppix xmodule=fbdev, like it was before for your card.

so your whole line ist:

knoppix xmodule=fbdev alsa

Fabian

PS: I spent a lot of time to get alsa working, so please try it!

It is clear that checking the md5sums is very important. But sometimes people neglect to get the files, and can't do so later because the mirrors are overloaded.

It can often also be confusing to figure out which file on the mirrors is the most recent one.

I think it would help to put the md5sums on the knoppix download page, next to the full file names of the most recent versions.

Re Ac'97
I also have this onboard soundcard and was able to have it detected as usual no problem. Check your bios.

Re Video 'Broken'
Dunno if same prob, but this was first time knoppix didn't detect my refresh rate properly so screen was black/white choppy. Press f2 in boot you will see knoppix xrefresh=60 or somesuch. Check it out.

where in bios?

I believe it is listed in peripherals. Make sure you have the soundcard enabled. There are 3 or 4 lines that need to be enabled. This is assuming your bios is the same or similar which is likely. Mine is on a gigabyte board.

Done that already...

I tried the gentoo ut2003 demo cd and it loaded the alsa driver so there is hope for me yet[/url]
