Hello everyone!
I've been busy the last few months but I finally got back to my custom remastering of knoppix for my workplace...you can read my goals for the remaster

Well...since i've been able to create a knoppix remaster from debootstrap and kernel 2.6.11.7 with most scripts from knoppix 3.8.1
The remaster is a a clean mix of sarge and sid that runs icewm as the window manager with nautilus and gdm. Tools included on the remaster are geared towards accessing dead Windows PC's.
Here are the features:
Recover data from most corrupted drives and copy them to a network share
Reset the admin passwords
Manage partitions using QTParted
Undelete deleted files from NTFS drives and copy them to a network share
Image a hdd
Run NTFSFix on NTFS formated partitions
Write to NTFS drives using captive-ntfs
Run the cd from a Windows environment using QEMU
The ISO image is compiled for each person that requests it from an internal website and GDM uses their own network login name and a password they specify. The CD expires in 6 months using time from time servers on our network. It also uses MEMDISK (http://syslinux.zytor.com/memdisk.php) to boot up other images like Drive Fitness Test (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm), Memtest, BartPE, and our own in house DOS reimaging boot disk.
Currently the CD without BartPE is around 250mb and uses the AIOSCRIPT I wrote for most of the tasks to rescue a dead windows machine. It uses a mix of 3.4, 3.8 and 3.8.1 scripts from Knoppix but it's linux is NOT a remaster from the CD but from a Debian bootstrap so I didn't install anything that I didn't need.
It took me about a week of trial and error to get things working right and unfortunately I did not document my steps on how I got it all to work but ALL of my resources came from searching this forum as well as other sites from google ;)
Do you guys see anything I may need for a complete Windows Rescue CD? Also from the list below, do you see anything I should remove or add?

I've been busy the last few months but I finally got back to my custom remastering of knoppix for my workplace...you can read my goals for the remaster

Well...since i've been able to create a knoppix remaster from debootstrap and kernel 2.6.11.7 with most scripts from knoppix 3.8.1
The remaster is a a clean mix of sarge and sid that runs icewm as the window manager with nautilus and gdm. Tools included on the remaster are geared towards accessing dead Windows PC's.
Here are the features:
Recover data from most corrupted drives and copy them to a network share
Reset the admin passwords
Manage partitions using QTParted
Undelete deleted files from NTFS drives and copy them to a network share
Image a hdd
Run NTFSFix on NTFS formated partitions
Write to NTFS drives using captive-ntfs
Run the cd from a Windows environment using QEMU
The ISO image is compiled for each person that requests it from an internal website and GDM uses their own network login name and a password they specify. The CD expires in 6 months using time from time servers on our network. It also uses MEMDISK (http://syslinux.zytor.com/memdisk.php) to boot up other images like Drive Fitness Test (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm), Memtest, BartPE, and our own in house DOS reimaging boot disk.
Currently the CD without BartPE is around 250mb and uses the AIOSCRIPT I wrote for most of the tasks to rescue a dead windows machine. It uses a mix of 3.4, 3.8 and 3.8.1 scripts from Knoppix but it's linux is NOT a remaster from the CD but from a Debian bootstrap so I didn't install anything that I didn't need.
It took me about a week of trial and error to get things working right and unfortunately I did not document my steps on how I got it all to work but ALL of my resources came from searching this forum as well as other sites from google ;)
Do you guys see anything I may need for a complete Windows Rescue CD? Also from the list below, do you see anything I should remove or add?
