This is my first try w/ knoppix and i have very limited exp. w/ linux.

I am using my friends cd which works fine on his computer but on mine it just goes to the kewl Knoppix "eye" screen after the tux boot and hangs with full mouse mobility but no desktop. Then after like 2-3 mins it "halts" and ejects the cd.
Says:
X-windows terminated w/o errors.
Spurious 8259a interrupt: irq 7
sent term and kill signal
umounting...can't umount...blah blah

you get the idea i hope.
Can you help w/o knowing my comp specs?

Which of these cheat codes are you using?

i tried "knoppix lang=en xmodule=nv noscsi wheelmouse" and it still did not work....but the halt text was a lil different...lik the IRQ 7 thing did not show up.

...Spurious 8259a interrupt: irq 7...

Make sure that Plug & Play is turned OFF in the BIOS. It may be labeled as Plug and Play Aware OS or similar, and its location in the BIOS setup varies. I think that the PnP scan can create interrupts that are read as "spurious" by Linux on some systems. It's not usually needed by Windows, either...

ummm tried to the pnp thing...tried a 100 different cheat codes (each w/ new halt messages) and it just ejects the cd after getting b/g and cursor. The DVD-rom i boot from blinks for a while and then just goes solid amber and makes a weird noise.

How about some system specs?

Hmmm...Is it a Pioneer DVD-ROM? I know I had boot problems with my DVD-115 until I updated the on-board firmware -- still can't get it to boot my SuSE install DVD-ROM, but it boots Knoppix -- and everything else -- OK.

As prevously stated, more feedback would help...

Which chipset? Or motherboard manufacturer & model, so we can figure it out? Which brand & model of DVD drive (RE my earlier reply)?
