Hi,

I am trying to boot a Knoppix 3.8.1 CD on a Dell PowerEdge 1850 (dual Xeon EM64T) and but it fails.
It gets stuck with the following message:

INIT: version 2.78-knoppix booting

The Knoppix CD works fine in a PE1655MC, while it gets stuck on another PE1850 at the very same stage.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Try the following:

knoppix acpi=off pnpbios=off -b noapic noagp noapm nodma nomce nofirewire nopcmcia noscsi noswap nousb nosmp noaudio nodhcp vga=normal 1

[I'd be nice if the above were a boot alias.]

Does the above work? If so, start removing options from left to right, until it no longer works.

If the above doesn't work, it could be that Knoppix is not correctly detecting the amount of ram you have. Try adding the argument like "mem=128M" if you have 128 MB of RAM. Adjust for your amount of RAM.

Regards,
- Robert

Hi,

The acpi=off switch did the trick.

Thanks.

Hello,

I had the same problem with the 1850, but worked around it prior to reading your resolve. I am having a problem with the system once Knoppix is installed to the harddrive and acting like a CDrom boot.

comes up with:

FATAL: Module sd_mod not found
...several lines concerned with mount and umount not working...

pivot_root: No such file or directory
..
..
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

And hangs.....

Help?

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that I am using a SCSI drive.
