I wrote up some "layman's" documentation on using Knoppix to recover files from a dead or corrupted Windows installation. The focus of the document is recovering files, not fixing the computer, so it is applicable to other operating systems as well.
Topics covered include: networking, dial-up networking, SMB and Samba (Windows Networking), printer configuration, persistent home directories and saved configurations, burning CDs, making drives writable, and suggestions for using Knoppix as a temporary replacement.
It is available online at http://www.shockfamily.net/cedric/knoppix/
I would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thank you in advance for your feedback,
Cedric
