I want to capture my desktop screen. But I can't paste into Kpaint

Use ksnapshot from the menu.

I have noticed that in previous versions only print entire screen worked (ctrl+print), while now in 3.8 print-working-window (alt+print) work as well.
You can use this hotkeys and then paste in Kpaint.

The GIMP gives you a choice.
File-->Acquire-->Screen Shot
