Howto for Linmodem driver install

Please help. I am a Linux newbie, have Knoppix 3.8.1 everything works splendidly except modem - this is a Conexant HSF. I have downloaded a driver file on my Win partition that I can access from Linux/Debian/Knoppix. Please help me with a walk through of how to install this file on Linux and configure the modem....
