hey folks,

ive got an old pc i want to try linux out on. im following the article by Brad Fuller here

http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/pub/a/oreilly/digitalmedia/2005/03/23/linuxmusic.html?

so im getting the bootup screen ok and the wee penguin up in the corner doing the hardware checks, but as soon as the desktop is supposed to kick in the screen dies and there looks to be nothing getting sent to the monitor. the LEDs on the casing are flashing as though the monitor is reciving nothing from the PC.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the knoppix cheatcodes: http://download.linuxtag.org/knoppix/knoppix-cheatcodes.txt and use the "xserver= " code that applies to your video card. You can also try "knoppix vga=normal" You would enter that or and xserver, xmodule code at the boot prompt. Good luck!

Sounds like an issue with your xmodule setting. Try boot: failsafe which will use vesa xmodule. If you still get a blank screen when X starts, you can switch back to a text-mode terminal by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1.
